Time policy | Managing premium rules

Updated this week

With premium rules you can automatically award extra compensation for hours worked on specific days or times. Think evening work, weekends, or public holidays. You decide per allowance when it applies and which percentage to use.

Set up premium rules

To apply a premium rule, go to the desired time policy or add a new policy. Scroll to the premium rule section and switch this feature on (green).

Then add an premium rule. You can set the following options:

  • Applies to days

Which day(s) the premium rule applies to

  • Whole day or from and until

The time window the premium rule applies to

  • Compensation type

For each combination of day, time, and compensation you can create a separate premium rule. This makes it easy to distinguish evening hours, weekend work, or public holidays.

Note: Premium rules are automatically awarded to time entries that fall within the set time window. If multiple premium rules or overtime rates overlap, the highest percentage applies.

What happens with manual compensation?

If an employee selects a compensation type manually when logging hours, no premium rule is applied to that entry.

When do you use premium rule?

Premium rules are suitable when you:

  • Want to reward employees extra for work outside standard hours

  • Want to apply clear rules for shift work, weekends, or public holidays

  • Want to set up automatic calculation of extra percentages with no manual actions

For custom handling per entry, you can use manual compensations.
